Help us find the cure for Dupuytren disease
Welcome to my Fundraising page!
For those who don't know, I have a (currently) incurable connective tissue disease in my hands. It affects the palmar fascia, the layer of connective tissue just below the skin in the palm. If it progresses, it could potentially fold my fingers permanently into my palms, making them unusable. It's called Dupuytren disease.
It's estimated that up to 7 percent of the US population has Dupuytren disease right now. It's sometimes called the most common hand disease that no one has ever heard of. It's very likely you know someone who has Dupuytren disease or an associated disease. It can often be mistaken for arthritis because of the way it distorts the hands and fingers.
So far, there are very few treatments available because there haven't been many large studies of Dupuytren disease and none of the past studies examined any genetic factors involved, simply because the technology didn't exist.
There is a huge worldwide study getting started right now to try to find a real cure. They need funding. Please consider donating to this study. They need at least $100,000 to get the study up and running. I've set my fundraiser goal at $5000 but even a $1 donation will help.
Thanks for any support you can offer.
